If you’re looking for a new laptop, then it’s worth having a look at the Toshiba C55A1UC.  Read on for my detailed review.

Design and build quality

Weighing in at 2.3kg, it's not the lightest of laptops, combined with dimensions of: width 41cm x depth:36.6cm it's more suited to use at home or the office.  This laptop feels solid and there is minimal flex, therefore the overall feel is of a quality product for the price.

Screen

The Toshiba Satellite C55-A-1UC 15.6inch laptop provides a native resolution of 1366×768.  Colours are rich and contrast is good and the screen is powered by an integrated Intel HD graphics 4600 chip.  Whilst you won't be able to play the latest games at high settings, you will be able to watch HD (720P) movies without a problem.

Keyboard

The keyboard has good feedback and it's comfortable to use for extended periods of time.  Therefore, you could easily use this as a work laptop - providing (due to the size) you're not 'on the road' all the time.

Performance

My review laptop came supplied with the Intel Core I3 processor, with a speed of 2.4 GHz. Supplied RAM is a healthy 8GB - an ample amount for Windows 8.  There’s a 1TB (1000GB) Hard Disk (HDD) and a DVD drive is also supplied.

Battery life

From normal use I was able to get just under 5 hours of life from a full charge.

Ports

  • Secure Digital (SD), Memory Stick (MS), Multi-Media Card (MMC) compatible.
  • 2 USB 2.0 ports.
  • 1 USB 3.0 port.
  • 1 Ethernet port.
  • 1 HDMI port.
  • Bluetooth.
  • Wi-Fi enabled.
There is a built in webcam, speakers an a microphone.

Operating System

The Samsung comes pre-installed with Windows 8.1

Summary

This is an good laptop at this price point, and I give it 7 out of 10
